I use it all the time now, what I really hate is when I try to use it in a chat program or another forum, and it replaces it with the emoticon for barfing.

Oh god, that's awful.

On all of the chat clients I've tried for my phone (Android), the :x smilie is turned into a really awkward kissing smilie. It's awful. I can't find any client that allows you to disable emoticons, either.

I've had that same problem using Androids, Freeze. Is there a way to generally just disable all smilies on the phone? :x Can't seem to find a way. However, I hear that Trillian will be available as an app soon, don't know how well that will be for smilies.

I doubt it. They differ from app to app, and each app has their own smilie files.

I heard about that and I was kind of surprised. I'm not sure, however, how good Cerulean Studios will be at developing a mobile app. They seem to like developing really heavy, full-featured apps (Trillian Astra is a total resource whore, or at least that's my experience with it) and that may not play nicely with a phone.

They actually made Trillain Astra for the iPhone, and I hear that actually functioned quite well. I'm using trillian right now, and it actually uses the correct smilie :). It shows a little emote with duct tape over it's mouth in an x.

Excellent! Two indicators of a better future on the horizon.
