Just for the record Tina, most of the British pop/indie lovers like The Kooks. I'm in a minority of people hating them, mainly because I just find them to be musically unoriginal. There's SO MANY bands that just pump out happy indie acousticy shit.
I prefer music that is a bit heavier, but don't mind bands like the Kooks in small doses. I wouldn't listen to it by choice, but don't hate it to start with. It's when I've heard the song literally every day on the radio that they start to grate and annoy me. There's just nothing really in the songs that I can pick merit for.
Nothing exceptional either in the music or the lyrics, either for talent or for creativity and originality. I think the fact that their second album isn't that good helps to back up this statement.

The singers wannabe-Northern accent also pisses me off intensely.

LoL, I loved the review Tina.  Probably my favorite one so far. 

I actually listened to some of the songs on the album after I read it, and I have to agree with you, it was so meh and annoying.  :x
