Old games are more family friendly then newer games, that's the reason our school refuses to get a Wii, 360 or PS3.  :x
Yeah, it seems like a lot of modern games are either more violent or not as easy to learn.

My school had a Wii and 360 for one festival-ish day, though.

My school doesn't allow video games either. They even freak out on us and tell us to log out when we're playing a simple flash game on the computer that's obviously not obscene. They even take issue with Pong.

Then again, I live in a rural hick town full of dumbasses who only care about sports and skateboarding, so it's not a surprise. Most likely, no one would play.

We used to be able to get away with games on the school computers, but in the last few weeks, they've gone bat shit crazy with making sure the computers are used for only school related programs.  Several people have their accounts suspended.  They're even yelling at the teachers now too.  I just avoid using them now, since I know I'll do something that, to them, is justifiable of banning my account.

As for systems, depending on the teacher, you ca get away with playing a DS or bringing a system in for some days, often the day before break or something.  One of my teachers even lets us use the projector.

My school isn't quite that paranoid. They just block a lot of obviously game related sites. But a little tunneling or Tor takes care of that.

I used to bring my GBA with Pokemon to play when I had a free period. Teachers aren't too enthusiastic about portable electronic devices in class though.

They have been doing that with flash games at my school ever since I entered middle school.

Before, when I was in elementary school, they would let us or even encourage us (by cheering us on or talking to us about it) to play games that were school-friendly. I remember playing Cartoon Network and Disney Channel games all the time when I was in like 3rd grade on school computers. We even had organized tournaments sometimes.
Then, when I got to 6th grade, all of a sudden, something set off this frenzy of obsession with school-related computer use. Some people have even been banned for using the school email system in class when they're done with all of their assigned work in the computer lab or library. It's ridiculous. They demand that we log out and do homework or just sit there blankly whenever we finish our work.

My school constantly repeats the rule that the computers should only be used for school work and that you'll be suspended from your computer log in if you're found using the computers for something that isn't school related. But, it's said but never done. Everyone either just plays flash games or goes on facebook on the computers while it's strictly prohibited. The teachers don't really give a damn.

Hell, in one of my classes last year some kid was looking at fat lady porn and he didn't even get his account suspended.

See, ours don't really either.  It's the administrators and fucking tech people who are all up in arms over it.  I guess they have nothing better to do with their time but watch our every move every waking moment we're in the school, yet when we need to actually meet and talk to them about something, they're never available.

My biggest gripe is that they tell us we've been violating the school's computer ToS.  However, there is no written copy in our agendas/handbook and the link they list in the log on agreement (Basically says I agree to the the ToS, which is available at blahblahblah.org) leads to a page 404.  So no one has ever actually seen this agreement we keep getting punished for violating.

In my school, if we are caught on ANY flash games, 2 day ban from library, and then if caught a second time, perma ban for that one trimester (like semester, but 3 a year).  It's retarded.  Though, they don't mind message boards... phew.

Wait, schools out there DO have Wii/PS3/360s? The fuck? That's just... not right. Why, do you use it during lunch or something? That's bull. Go outside, eat your lunch, pretend to do stuff. SOCIALIZE! Video games in school are just not right. Unless it's flash games during CAPP or something.

Go outside? What?

My school doesn't let anyone outside unless it's for a class.

That's what I always thought... I mean, games certainly don't pretain to learning <_>.

WHAT?  Christ freeze.  My school lets us outside if we want, for lunch or open periods.

We don't HAVE "open periods". We have "study halls" in which they yell at us and demand that we do work.

My thoughts were pretty much similar to Dave's.  I'm surprised that there are schools out there even with older video game consoles.  Just the fact that there is a video game console in the school in the first place is crazy enough for me.

Are these school or teacher owned or did people just bring them in?

The only time I can recall somebody brining in a video game console was for the Dance Dance Revolution contest that student council held one lunch hour.

Kids these days. :P

My school occasionally has Guitar Hero or DDR games at lunch, although it's more of a competition than anything. It's just a pathetic excuse to increase social status or bomb it if you lose. Only the popular students (and boys) play them, so it's just annoying and stupid.

An example, I went to watch the DDR thingamabobber, practically everyone was whispering to one another with comments such as: "Oh, he said he was so good at DDR, he really sucks" and shit along those lines.

As for no video games in school, do handhold consoles count? I frequently bring my DS and sometimes my PSP to school to play at lunch when I'm bored (which I always am).

Same here. They only get really mad when you download anything related to a program. Negligence got suspended for upgrading flash player.

Lol, my school doesn't mind my DS.  Except when our vice principal (a black women) told me to put mine away, but let another black kid a few tables away play :X that kinda pissed me off.

We have computers that are designated for "Work Only" and will have almost all the flash game sites blocked. It can be hard to find a working one, and even then it usually gets banned after a few weeks. I had FFR going for a while though.
Of course, the "Work Only" computers are adored by me, because they'd always be free, seeing as everyone else couldn't play games on them, and therefore wouldn't use them, meanwhile MAME and Texmaster run fine.

Our school allows nothing electronic, PSP's, iPods, cell phones, etc...

No video game tournaments or anything of the like either. Buuut, they never actually said anything about DS's. I used to bring it in when I was obssessed with beating MPH.

As for flash game, they're not allowed either, but people play them anyways. The key is to go into any computer lab but the library, since pretty much every site you go on gets blocked the next day. If it's any other room, you can access an un-blocked site any time. Speaking of blocked sites, they even block the google search for "Proxy". xD

I bring my DS to school fairly frequently. Play it a bit between classes.
