On topic with the first post, from tonight:
Epic game of football, Champions League Quarter-Final, Liverpool vs Arsenal. Arsenal scoring first and then Liverpool equalising to make it 1-1. Same scoreline as the first leg, 2-2 on aggregate, meaning that it would go to extra time and penalties if it finished that way.
Torres scored a fantastic goal for Liverpool after 70 minutes to put them in front in the tie and remove the chance of extra time.
Arsenal then equalised with 6 minutes remaining of normal time, putting the score at 2-2 and 3-3 overall. However, because they have more goals scored away in the tie than Liverpool, this result would mean they win the tie and go through to the next round (I was seriously swearing blue murder at this point and pretty damn gutted).
Driving forward run from Babel in the 86th minute, brought down in the area, penalty converted by Gerrard to put Liverpool back in front. With Into injury timeArsenal still applying pressure, a quick break from Babel to chase a clearance left him one-on-one with the goalkeeper, put it away to seal the game at 4-2 to Liverpool and 5-3 overall.
Liverpool through to the Semi-Finals against Chelsea.

So damn happy right now

I would say that I thought that American football was dumb, but the reasons why I think it's dumb apply to every other single sport in the world, so it's probably not fair to single out just one of them.

American Football would be good if they just removed all the breaks and sped up the pace a little. It's really only the last ten minutes or so that generate enough excitement for me to watch real-time without dozing off.

European football reigns above all others for the simple reason that it requires fuck all to play.
You don't need that many people to play a game of football. It works with two people, up to about 25, depending on how big a pitch you're playing on. You don't need goals, just something to mark out where the posts are (we usually used items of clothing or litter). Heck, you don't even need a ball to play. I spent two years where I'd play football with a coke bottle for a few minutes waiting for the bus to school each morning, and it was fun. Heck, sometimes I'd want to get to the station earlier just to play more football.
No other mainstream sport requires so little in terms of the number of players and accessories.

Yeah, in most other sports there's a bigger disconnect between the players and the spectators. For football you just need a few people, a ball, and an open space, so a bigger proportion of the fans also play it. It's also why so many elementary school students play it, although it isn't so popular for adults.

Also why it's so popular in places like Brazil, because it costs next to nothing in terms of equipment to play. It's a sport for poor people too.
