What I'm trying to say, is that he's a crappy role model and as a result of that, makes the gay community look bad.  Not that I'm saying he is a role model, but at the same time, if you are going on American Idol, I guess you are bound to be somewhat of a role model to twelve year olds and their creepily-obsessed parents.  I dunno, there are lots of people that could do things he has done and it wouldn't bother me.  But he does it in such a way it comes across as extremely sleazy and pathetic.

There's just so much stupid crap he's said and done.  That and he butchered way too many songs.

Freeze, how can you honestly look at him sing or do anything without getting pissed off?

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you. I think he's easily the worst thing to happen to the gay community since George Michael's strange definition of fidelity in a relationship and Boy George's cocaine habit. I just don't think it's fair to entirely blame him. I saw a couple interviews that changed my mind about him. Before that, I thought he was just a douchebag, but after I saw a couple interviews with him (mainly the one he had with Oprah) I determined that it was more accurate to consider him a severely misguided and naive guy who has no idea how to handle fame.

I'm pretty sure he did drag shows early on in his career and things like that. He's accustomed to the gay underground life. He's not necessarily accustomed to having the eyes of the public on him. The whole awards show debacle can probably be chalked up to that -- he didn't realize that what he can do at a city club at 1:00 AM isn't acceptable on national television.

Back from the Reading Festival. Highlights were Blink-182, Ash (who were holy shit awesome), NOFX, Biffy Clyro, Kele (from Bloc Party). Paramore were also reasonably good.

Also Weezer, who I'd initially scoffed at being so high up on the line-up, were fucking awesome. Like, actually fantastic live, really good fun, and they played covers of Teenage Dirtbag and also a fantastic mashup cover of Kids by MGMT and Poker Face by Lady Gaga.
