I can't say anything about matrices, but statistics was like, the review you did was proper review. It wasn't you being retaught, it was the class doing review of things everyone had done before. The only thing we were taught in that class, you were taught for the first time as well.

That was such a silly unit. I thought we would follow it up with crazy advanced stats, but there was... what, a single class of new material, and that was it?

Either way, that's not reaally the point. The thing is, I was told that by skipping a grade, I'd get to actually... advance my learning. Like, I'd actually do more math. They later offered me two options: either do less math than I would have originally done (ending with SL), or do the exact same amount of math as I initially would have done but repeat a ton of stuff. It's just stupid. So I figured I'd finally get to do some actually advanced math! ... but apparently not. And apparently I can't even take a placement test or anything. :x

... what about all the stuff we're doing now that you won't get to do in SL? I really don't understand. I don't think you can say you're not learning more math in HL than you would have in SL.

EDIT: Oh but I guess you could have just done HL anyway, I see your point.

Yeah, what I meant is, it was basically a waste of time since I ended up in the same place as I otherwise would have, doing HL 12. Plus, I don't think I'll be fully comfortable with the fact that I skipped HL 11 until after the actual exam, where it'll basically be sink or swim. :x

Ah well. It'll probably end up being a really easy first year, I guess. Sucks that I wouldn't be able to spread the hypothetical Honours classes out a little more by doing some of them right off the bat, though.

The lesson is, don't take special classes.  You'll usually just end up doing more work for nothing or very little gain.

Like that case writing course that was offered to me.  It would have killed me this semester and I still would have had to taken up the course it would replace at a later date.

Speaking of school, I have two midterms tomorrow and have to work immediately after my exam.  Lame.  At least, life will finally calm down after tomorrow though.  So, it's not all bad.

The real lesson is, don't complain. If you're going to spend the first year of Uni doing stuff you've mostly done before, then sure the lectures are going to be a little dull, but you can have an absolutely awesome first year and still ace the exams.

Pretty sure for the first term of any science course anywhere you spend it all doing stuff you've already done. They want to make sure everyone gets taught the basics they might not have been taught, and that you're all up to speed and know what's going on.

Just find some societies or sports or something to take up the time you'll spend struggling with work in the later years, and enjoy yourself a bit. You'll still have a harder workload than humanities students.

I hate buying textbooks.  This evening could potentially cost me close to $600 when I go to buy my books.  I'm hoping I'll be able to find most of them used, which cut that in half almost.  Still a shitton of money to be spending on books though. >:Y

Wait, where do you get off getting your friends to promise you not to get engaged to people? :x

Alright, "promise" is the wrong word. We had a discussion about this in terms of hypothetical situations and she told me that it just wasn't something she'd ever want to do until much later in her life.

It's not like I went up to her and said "PROMISE ME RIGHT NOW THAT YOU WILL NEVER GET ENGAGED" and made her sign a contract.

@Clyde, I disagree, but only because my advanced classes (well, my Higher Levels at least) are courses that I enjoy and want to be taking at a higher level.

@Rosti, it just doesn't make sense to speed up and go through loads of stuff really quickly if you have to slow down and wait until everyone else catches up anyway. And yeah, I can have a really easy first year, but as it stands, I'm currently planning on taking what is apparently a very, very tough following 3 years. So I'd much rather take those 3 years of courses and spread them out over 4 years, thereby not wasting a year, AND enjoying my following 3 years more.

I mean, I'm not regretting taking advanced courses or anything. Far from it, actually - I'm really, really glad I did. I just wish I could use it to my advantage a bit more.

All I'm saying is that when you get into the back end of your second year and the later years, you'll look back on the time you had where work was easy and see how awesome it was.

And you well wouldn't get three years of hard work spread over four. You'd get four years of hard work spread over four instead.

Took a nap after dinner, slept through my alarm, starting my Physics design lab at midnight. It's now 2, and I'm making good progress, at least. But still, bleh.

Slept through my alarm, missed spanish.  Now my grade goes down a whole, uh, not sure how to say it (B+ -> B, C- -> D, etc).

For missing one class?  That is ridiculous.

Then again, people fail my Leadership class for not going, but to be fair it makes sense given the class.  It doesn't make sense for something like Spanish though.

Well you can call in sick and stuff, up to three times (unless circumstances are so bad you can't go still), but sleeping in... eh.

I've the same problem, Nines. Our attendance policy is that if you're 10 to 15 minutes late it counts as an absence, even if it's excused. Well, I'm always late to English because my stupid brother takes his sweet time getting ready and I'm up to 7 absences.

So if I get anymore lates/absences I get detentions or get kicked out of UCAS. Which sucks, because I might have mono WHICH IS PROBLEMATIC. And I didn't go at all today, so the faculty's going to have a field day with that.

Stupid attendance policy. Freaking. GRR.
