This job talk reminds me that I should really get on top of finding a job. I'm graduating in April. :x

Rosti, what are you studying, specifically? I remember you switched between branches of engineering, but I don't remember what you went with?

I'm studying manufacturing engineering. Which sort of qualifies me for anything from product line management to technology consultancy to product design. Last year I did a ton of accountancy, product design, and manufacturing process improvement techniques and stuff, and this year I've done a load of projects in industry saving companies money by improving their production lines for free. It's a pretty broad course, and for more technical roles I can always fall back on the fact that for the first two years I did a pretty brutal general engineering course.

One of our course directors actually got an email from an Apple HR person asking specifically for people who do our course (and there's only 36 of us in a year) because they'd had a couple of graduates before and apparently they were awesome. The job was actually in California, and I probably would have applied if it wasn't for the fact that I'd rather not work for Apple and the job role (materials engineering and research) wasn't entirely appealing.
Not work for Apple? My God, are you holding out for manufacturing parts for the NASA Mars shuttle?
Working there would be an easy 6-figures, wish I could say the same about my program (Either time/money consuming med-school, fame and fortune doing research after grad-school or bust.)
Regardless I feel honored knowing someone as talented as you.

I'd find it hard to work for a company where I have fairly large amounts of contempt for the majority of their products (while there are aspects I admire, they embody pretty much everything I hate about modern consumerism), as well as their corporate social responsibility policies. Plus Apple don't actually manufacture everything - it's all outsourced.

On a related bitch, I received a rejection letter today from my first-choice company :\

At the moment I'm mostly holding out on a job for Siemens that I seem pretty overqualified for. Pay isn't great but it looks moderately interesting and is better than unemployment.

I tend to like Apple's products and design philosophies, but I definitely would not want to work for them. Even without Jobs, Apple has the long-standing reputation of being absolutely brutal to its employees. (The most infamous, of course, is the "get on an elevator with Jobs at Apple headquarters and by the time you got to the first floor, you didn't have a job" story, but there are others)

Well, my mind has just been blown.

I just found a profile of somebody in my department at work on gay POF (my friend and I are still on there trying to meet people for fun - by fun, usually dinner and some random activity afterwards). This guy is normally very quiet, keeps to himself. On his profile, he seems like a completely different person and apparently has abs. I did not see that coming.

Interesting to see how completely different people can be when you take them out of a certain environment. My one concern now is that he will now see that I viewed his profile. Hopefully it doesn't make things awkward at work. :x

Got involved in a community service organization on campus and it only took me a week and a day to fall in love with a straight man!

Poor Freeze. If it makes you feel any better, the two guys I mentioned to you both have boyfriends. But at least I took action for once. Haha.

Also, why did you delete your Facebook page? I just noticed last night...

Organization requirements. It's temporary. It should be back up next Sunday.

Past the first handful they quickly become fiendishly difficult mathematical coding puzzles, especially if you don't want to just bruteforce the calculation.

Out of curiosity, what kind of requirements/why?

The kind I can't really talk about for another one and a half months or so/because people fucked up and that was the consequence.

It's an awesome tool, methinks. I always had to ask Alex for help, though. :S

I'll have to remember to ask you about it around April 22nd then because I am also curious.

I have housemates to ask about maths stuff (and oh my god do I need help with the maths stuff - I've apparently forgotten how to do all pure/abstract maths in the last four years) and Nicola/internet to ask for the coding stuff, though generally I'm not so bad for that.
