If you are a very open person in terms of music, and would like a new artist to check out, let me recommend someone.

Ben Sollee.
Genre would be something like folk, though some songs could be called bluegrass as well.
He plays cello; he's also from my state. And I love his music.
Album "Learning to Bend" is what I'm listening to right now.

This sentimental movie marathon has taught us one thing.
The opposite of true love is as follows:
REALITY

If anyone wants Bend Sinister's Through the Broken City, here it is below:

It's not as upbeat and happy as their latest efforts, but hey, it can be extremely badass at times.  I say it is worth a look.

I have a feeling I've recommended this before, but the end of this song (30:55 by Olafur Arnalds) is one of the best things I've discovered (re-discovered, I guess, considering I completely forgot about him for ages) in a long time

Blue Sky Black Death. In particular Gold In, Gold Out is an awesome song but I think the whole of their new album (Noir) is good:

Would give a genre, but I don't really know what the genre is (Wikipedia says Alternative Hip-Hop, and I can sort of see where that's coming from, but I think it's misleading). It's fairly slow and mellow synth and guitar stuff.

I recommend Feist's Metals to anyone who has ever had any remote interest in Feist.

I was expecting to be disappointed by it like all other albums released by bands I have been following, but I was pleasantly surprised! The album is full of surprises and has a much different sound compared to The Reminder.

Here is a link to one of my favourite tracks on the album:
